Jesus had cast out a demon from a blind man who could not speak.  The man began to speak and could see, but the Pharisees and teachers were skeptical and even accused Jesus of casting out demons by the power of Satan! ( Read October's 2007 Paraphrased Quotes )

The Pharisees and the teachers of the law had already seen Jesus heal a man with a withered hand before this man,  but they wanted to trap him.  They said to him,  "Teacher,  we want to see a miraculous sign from you.  And Jesus answered,  "An evil and adulterous generation asks for miracles but none will be given except for the sign of the prophet Jonah.  For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish,  so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth."

"On the Judgment Day the people of the town of Nineveh will stand up and accuse you,  because they turned away from their sin when they heard what Jonah had to say to them;  and I tell you there is one here ( Jesus ) greater than Jonah!  On the Judgment Day the Queen of Sheba will stand and accuse you,  because she traveled all the way from her country to listen to King Solomon's wise teaching;  and I assure you that there is one here ( Jesus ) greater than Solomon!"

AUTHOR'S NOTE:   In the answer that Jesus gives the Pharisees and teachers:

1.  Jesus affirms the authenticity of the Old Testament Story of Jonah as a historic fact.  There are many
people who think the stories of the bible like  'Jonah And The Whale'  and  'Noah's Ark'  were glorified
fairy tales,  but Jesus believed that those people and events did happen.

2.  Jesus affirms his resurrection after three days and three nights.

3.  Jesus affirms the final resurrection and judgment by saying to them, "The men of Nineveh will stand up
at the judgment with this generation and condemn it;  for they repented at the preaching of Jonah,  and
now one greater than Jonah is here."

New Testament,  Book Of Matthew,  Chapter 12,  Verses 38-42
(also found in the Book Of Mark,  Chapter 8,  Verses 11-12  and  Luke,  Chapter 11,  Verses 29-32)
