HOW  TO  GIVE

Jesus tells his disciples and the crowds who have gathered to hear him,   "Do not expect a reward from your Father in heaven when you give charity to those in need publicly,  just to show people what a good person you are."

"When you give charity,  do not blow a horn before you in houses of worship and public places,  like the hypocrites looking for applause.  You can be sure of this much,  they are already repaid."

"When you help those in need,  do it such a way that even your closest friend will not know about it,  Keep your deeds of mercy secret,  then the Father,  who sees in secret will repay you."

HOW  TO  PRAY

Jesus said,  "When you pray,  do not be like the hypocrites who love to stand up and pray in the houses of worship and on street corners,  in order to be noticed.  I give you my word,  they are already repaid."

"When you pray,  go to a room,  close the door,  and pray to your Father alone.  And your Father who sees what no person sees,  will hear your prayer and repay you."

"Do not pray like the pagans who use a lot of meaningless words in their prayers and think that God will hear them because their prayers are long.  Do not be like them."

"When you pray,  keep in mind that the Father knows what you need before you ask him.  This is how you should pray.

Our Father in heaven
Holy is your name
may your kingdom come
your will is done
on earth as it is in heaven
Give us today,  the food we need
And forgive us our wrong doing
As we forgive those who do wrong against us
Help us not to be tempted
But deliver us from evil"

"If you forgive the people who have done wrong to you,  your Father in heaven will also forgive you.  If you do not forgive others for the wrongs they have done to you,  the Father in heaven will not forgive the wrongs you have done."

New Testament,  Book Of Matthew,  Chapter 6,  Verses 1-15
(also found in the Book Of Luke,  Chapter 11,  Verses 2-4)
