Jesus had come back to his own town of Capernaum after teaching in other towns and a crowd had assembled at a house where he was teaching. There were teachers of religious law (scribes & Pharisees) present among the people who came to listen to Jesus. Some men brought a man who was paralyzed to Jesus, but couldn't get near the house because of the crowd of people. They brought him up to the roof of that house and lowered him down on his mat to Jesus.
When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, "My son, your sins are forgiven."
The scripture says that though the scribes and Pharisees kept it to themselves, Jesus was aware
that they were asking themselves, 'Why does this man talk this way, he is speaking
as if he were God.' (He is committing blasphemy) 'God is the only one who can forgive sins.'
Jesus said to them, "Why are you thinking these things? Which is easier to say to this
paralyzed man, 'Your sins are forgiven', or to say 'Get up, pick up your mat and
walk' "?
"So that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on Earth to forgive sins,"
He said to the man who was paralyzed, "I tell you, get up, pick up your mat and go home."
While they all watched, the man got up, picked up his mat and went outside in sight of everyone. The people were completely amazed and praised God, saying, "We have never seen anything like this !"
It is important to hear what Jesus said to this paralyzed man. "My son, your sins are forgiven."
Even though the scribes and Pharisees were asking themselves, 'Why does this man talk this way, he is speaking as if he were God.'
And Jesus answered their thoughts by saying, “Which is easier to say to this paralyzed man, 'Your sins are forgiven',
or to say 'Get up, pick up your mat and walk'.
What Jesus was saying to them is anyone can come along and say, Hey, your sins are now forgiven. But in reality their statement can’t be proved. Only GOD can forgive your sins.
And what Jesus continued to say emphasized this.
So that you can have proof that I have the authority to
forgive the sins of mankind, I’m telling this man who was paralyzed to pick up his mat and go home.
And when that man stood up and picked up his mat and walked through the crowd who was amazed...
It proved that man’s sins had been forgiven, because Jesus is GOD!
Can Jesus forgive your sins without being baptized with water, without speaking in tongues or any other religious ceremonies?
YES! All you have to do is ask:
'Lord Jesus, forgive my sins and all the wrong doings of my life. Come into my life,
fill me with your Holy Spirit and help me to do your will.’
You are the paralyzed person being lowered from the roof of a house to Jesus to be healed. When Jesus sees your faith, he will say to you. “My son, my daughter, your sins are forgiven.”
